Northumberland OPP – Body Found In Trent River Identified As Murder Victim

Monday May 6, 2019 at approximately 7:20 p.m., officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an address on Centennial Lane north of Campbellford in the Municipality of Trent Hills, for a report of an injured male from an alleged assault.

Officers arrived on scene and found evidence of a person who had been seriously injured. Northumberland OPP officers with the assistance of the OPP Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit, Aviation Unit, Marine Unit and the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU), conducted an extensive search of the area for the victim.

On Monday, May 27, 2019, at approximately 2:00 pm, Northumberland OPP officers were called to the area of County Road 38 near the 8th Line East located just north of the town of Campbellford, where human remains were discovered in the water near the shore line of the Trent Severn Waterway by two kayakers.

On Wednesday, May 29, 2019, a post mortem examination was conducted at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto. The remains have been identified as Blythe SEXSMITH 61-years-old of Trent Hills, Ontario.

This investigation is ongoing by members of the Northumberland OPP Major Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Brad Robson of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
