Damage estimates could reach $200,000 following a fire at a residence in Cramahe Township on Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

Cramahe Township firefighters were called to the residence on County Road 21, east of County Road 25, north of Colborne at approximately 6:08 p.m.

When crews arrived on scene, the two vehicle garage was engulfed in flames with fire spreading to the house.

Cramahe Township Interim Chief Tim Burgess said when crews arrived they did an interior attack which stopped the flames from spreading throughout the roof.

Brighton Township Fire Department were called in for assistance with tanker support along with manpower.

Approximately 1/3 of the house suffered major fire damage along the garage destroyed and at least one vehicle.

“The crews did an excellent job. They got in the front door, worked as a team and contained the fire from spreading throughout the roof area.”

Firefighters were also able to retrieve a laptop and a number of family photos.

Burgess said, “we had an excellent response. With a significant number of firefighters at the firehall getting ready to participate in training.

Which made our response extremely fast.”

The exact cause of the fire was unknown at press time.
