Breaking News – Unpredictable Waters of Lake Ontario

In Editor Choice, Weather

The waters along the shoreline of Lake Ontario still appear to be unpredictable as of May 21, 2019.

Taking a walk along the Cobourg beach, it seems reminiscent of 2017 when water covered nearly all of the beach area.

In Port Hope it appears to again be similar of 2017 with part of the docking area submerged along the Ganaraska River.   There was no beach because of the high water and it’s clear the water is once again eroding areas.

Parts of the Waterfront Trail by Alice King Sculthorpe Woodland Marsh have been destroyed by high water and waves.

Trees, once on land are submerged, with only roots showing it will only be a matter of time before they collapse into the water.

Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture, Jim McCormack said the cost of repairs in 2017 was $55,775, but the cost of repair the damage this year will be assessed once the waters recede.
