In City Hall

It’s official – Cobourg will serve as one of the host locations for the Ontario Guild of Town Criers provincial championships on June 1, as confirmed at this week’s committee-of-the-whole meeting of council.

The event will also take place in Grafton. Both Cobourg and Alnwick-Haldimand Township, incidentally, have town criers who will be vying for top honours.

Though the Cobourg location is anticipated to be in the Esplanade Park, Mayor John Henderson has made a prudent move to cover all the weather bases and made arrangements with William Academy in case of rain. William Academy is located in the former CDCI West building at 135 King St. W.

Director of community services Dean Hustwick said they would try to ensure all communications about the event included the fact that there is an alternative location.
