Northumberland County OPP – Long Weekend Impaired Charges

Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged two men with impaired driving over the Easter long weekend.

On Friday April 19, 2019 just before 11:00 am officers received numerous complaints regarding a silver Hyundai sedan travelling eastbound on Highway 401 entering the Northumberland County area. The vehicle was described as dangerously weaving in and out traffic and almost hitting the concrete barrier. The vehicle the n collided into the rear of another vehicle travelling in the same direction. Both vehicles were towed from the highway and only minor injuries were reported.
Adam David ROPER (age 40) of Peterborough, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
Dangerous operation
He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on May 29, 2019.

On Monday April 22, 2019 at approximately 1:30 am an officer conducted a traffic stop on a grey Honda sedan for a Highway Traffic Offence on Grand Road in the town of Campbellford. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. A Roadside Screening Device (ASD) was a dministered resulting in a “fail”. Daniel Joseph O’CONNELL (age 69) of Prince Edward County, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Operation while Impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on May 15, 2019.
Both accused drivers received an immediate driver’s licence suspension and the vehicles they were driving were towed and impounded.
The OPP would like to remind motorists that highway safety is a shared responsibility. If you choose to consume alcohol or drugs, plan ahead to ensure that yourself and others that may be travelling our roadways arrive home safely.
