From Monday April 15, 2019 to Sunday April 21, 2019, the Cobourg Police Service responded to 194 occurrences including: 12 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 20 Theft reports, 5 Domestic Disputes, 3 Alarm calls, 1 Mental Health calls, 2 Harassments, 5 Fraud, 1 Trespass calls Here are some examples of calls for service for the week: April 15th: • Police responded to two Theft calls at a Strathy Road business after the fact thefts. Investigation is currently ongoing. Attempts to be identified the suspects involved when video is obtained.
• Police responded to a local department store in regards to a burglar alarm. Upon arrival police checked the premise and the alarm was deemed false.
April 16th: • Police responded to a local business for two males trying to purchase items with a suspicious credit card. Upon arrival police arrested 2 parties for Fraud and multiple counts Possession of Property obtained by crime.
• Police responded to a Disturb the Peace call at an address west-end of Cobourg. Upon arrival officers spoke with the complainant who advised that she was in a verbal dispute with her son and his friend. Police deemed that there were no assaults or threats reported therefore all parties were separated and went on their way.
April 17th: • Police attended to a west-end address in Cobourg in regards to male with mental issues. While on scene police learned that the male had stated that he was going to kill himself and the family dog. The male was apprehended by police and transported to the hospital for assessment.
• Police attended an altercation between a female and employees of a local business in the parking lot in regards to a theft. The female in question fled prior to police arrival but was located a short time later at the Northumberland Hills Hospital and arrested for theft and assault.
April 18th: • Police received a call to attend a local motel regarding an unwanted person. Upon arrival police located the male in question and he was trespassed by the motel management.
• Police were dispatched to an address John Street for a reported overdose. The call was cleared as unfounded as all residents were accounted for and observed to be in good health.
April 19th: • Police attended a call for a stolen vehicle overnight. Upon arrival police spoke to the complainant who advised that her keys were left in the vehicle and it was stolen between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. As a result of a subsequent police investigation police arrested the male responsible for the theft of the vehicle.
• A male with a dog that appeared to be checking vehicles out was reported to police. Police spoke to the male who advised that he was just walking his dog and was not checking vehicles. No further police involvement.
April 20th: • Police attended a liquor license establishment in the east end of Cobourg for a noise complaint. While dealing with the noise complaint police observed a male patron who appeared intoxicated get into his vehicle, turn the engine on, and drive it forward a short distance then back it up a short distance. Police spoke with the male driver and determined that he was impaired. He was subsequently arrested for impaired driving.
• Police attended a report of an intoxicated male. Police spoke with the male in question who was on the sidewalk in that area and he was observed to be incoherent as well as unsteady on his feet. The male was passed out at one point. He was transported to hospital for a suspected narcotic overdose.
April 21st: • Police responded to a stolen motor vehicle call. Sometime between 11:00 p.m. last night and 6:00 a.m. this morning a 2015 Kia white was stolen from the driveway. Keys were left in the vehicle which was unlocked.
IMPORTANT NOTICE Police are reminding the citizens of Cobourg to lock their vehicle at all times as there has been a rash of thefts from unlocked motor vehicles. Also police are reminding citizen’s to refrain from keeping any valuable/money inside their vehicles.
