Breaking News – Home Destroyed By Fire North of Garden Hill

In Editor Choice, Local

A house was destroyed by fire in the Municipality of Port Hope on Saturday, April 6, 2019.
Port Hope firefighters received the call at 8:26 p.m. for a structure fire on Forest Crescent at County Road 10 north of Garden Hill.
Neighbour Eric Naugle was inside his home when he heard an explosion.
At first he thought a tree had fallen on his house, but when he went outside saw the smoke billowing out of his neighbours house and part of their chimney was obviously destroyed.
He called 9-1-1 immediately to report the fire.
“From then on it was smoke and flames billowing out the windows.”
Crews from all three fire stations in Port Hope responded to the scene trying to bring the blaze under control.
Because of the damage to the home, firefighters fought the fire from the outside of the two-storey home.
A steel roof hampered firefighters efforts gaining control of the fire.
Hamilton Township firefighters were also called for assistance with the fire.
A woman who resides at the residence was reported to have been taken to hospital with minor injuries.
No word on the cause but the house was destroyed.
