UPDATE – Suspicious Death In Port Hope

In Editor Choice, Local, Police Blotter

A Port Hope family is devastated after the suspicious death of a husband and father late Wednesday evening on March 20, 2019.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., emergency services were called to an apartment building at 50 Cavan Street after a body was found on the first floor near an elevator.
Attempts at reviving the man were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
“It’s a very hard period now and we’re all trying to cope as best as we can,” said a family member who asked not to be named.
Family members have identified the deceased man as 52-year-old Tony MacDonald who was married for 28-years and had three children.
The deceased man lived on the fifth floor of the building, but was found on the first floor.
A tenant of the building told Today’s Northumberland previously, that he performed CPR on the deceased person, but the family member said adamantly that it isn’t true.
“I can tell you for sure that (the tenant) was not the one who gave him CPR,” a close family member stated adamantly.
A son of the deceased man found him and performed CPR.
Port Hope Police and OPP members were still on the scene at 3 p.m. collecting evidence and the first floor is still being blocked off by police.
Ontario Provincial Police Criminal Investigations Branch was contacted to assist Port Hope Police, but after more than 13-hours no information has been issued.
By 2:25 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2019 the scene at the apartment building is still being held.
Police have said a press release will be issued within a short period of time.
