UPDATE Peterborough County OPP – Collision on Highway 115

INFORMATION ON INJURIES AND DANGEROUS GOODS

Four people in total were injured in the collision. The patient flown to Toronto is still in critical condition and the other three were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The truck carrying the dangerous goods is still being assessed. The products it is carrying are Sodium Nitrate, Acetic Acid, and Emulsion. They are in three separate compartments on the truck and are used in the process of removing rock from quarries. Precaution is being taken to ensure the safest removal of the truck for the public and the emergency services personnel at the scene.

The highway will remain closed for several hours.

(CAVAN-MONAGHAN TOWNSHIP, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to assist at a multi-vehicle collision at approximately 6:00am on the northbound lanes of Highway 115 south of Tapley ¼ Line.

A vehicle was travelling northbound on Highway 115 when the driver lost control into the ditch. Several other vehicles became involved in attempts to avoid what had happened including a jackknifed tractor trailer.

One driver was transported by ORNGE air ambulance to a Toronto area hospital with life threatening injuries.

One of the tractor trailers was transporting potentially dangerous goods and the immediate area has been closed off until it can be deemed safe.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and updates will be provided as soon as they are available.

The northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 115 have been closed between Porter Road and Tapley ¼ Line while members trained in Collision Reconstruction measure and document the scene. The closure will remain in place for several hours while police investigate.
