The Town of Cobourg announced a few weeks back that its communications department had won an Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals AVA Digital Gold Award for digital and on-line marketing in connection with its Armistice 2018 commemorations.
At council on Monday night, the actual award was presented to communications manager Ashley Purdy.
“I feel like I’m accepting an Oscar,” Purdy said.
Mayor John Henderson said that the town’s celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I in a variety of ways (from music and art to drama and a lecture series) was one of two extraordinary municipal observances cited in Macleans Magazine (along with Fredericton, NB), implying the opinion that it was one of the nation’s top two commemorations.
“Armistice 18 was certainly close to all our hearts,” Purdy said.
“A lot of overtime was worked, and we did it with smiles on our faces.”
Thousands and thousands of entries are submitted in hopes of winning these awards, she added.
“We are really grateful.”
