Two Drivers Charged With Impaired Driving In Port Hope

On Friday February 22, 2019 members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) made two arrests in the Municipality of Port Hope for impaired driving.

Just before 1:30 pm an officer responded to a traffic complaint of a black Mazda sedan travelling westbound on Highway 401 in an erratic matter that was unable to maintain driving in a marked lane. The vehicle exited the highway on Wesleyville Road in Port Hope where it was stopped. Anna-Maria KOWALEWSKI (age 34) of Smith Falls, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Resist Peace Officer

She was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on March 13, 2019

 

Shortly after 10:00 pm police were notified of a possible impaired driver travelling eastbound on Highway 401 just entering the Northumberland area in the Municipality of Port Hope. The blue Infinity sedan was described as travelling at inconsistent speeds without any lights on and unable to maintain travelling in a marked lane. Stephen LECLAIR (age 57) of Port Hope, Ontar io was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drug
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on March 27, 2019

Both accused received an immediate 90 day licence suspension and the vehicles they were driving were towed and impounded.
