Port Hope Police – Assault and Threatening Charges Laid in Separate Incidents

An 18 year old male is facing charges of assault after Port Hope Police received a 9-1-1 call to a family disturbance in the south end of the Municipality. On the 12th of February at 2:00pm Police commenced and investigation in the call. Information was received that during an argument the 18 year old man assaulted a family member. Police arrested the male who was at the scene and he is charged with common assault. He appears in court the middle of March. Port Hope Police will not be releasing the accused name in order to protect the identity of the victim.

A 41 year old Port Hope female is facing charges after it is alleged she threatened a former partner. Port Hope Police received the complaint on the 15th of February 2019. The threat was sent via text message after the woman and the former partner were having a squabble over child care arrangements. The threat was taken seriously because of past history. The woman turned herself into Police at 6:30pm the same date and was charged with threatening. She appears in court the middle of March. Port Hope Police will not be releasing her name in order to protect the identity of the victim.

A 22 year old Cobourg man is facing numerous Highway Traffic Act charges after a Port Hope Police Officer commenced a vehicle stop on Peter Street the 15th of February 2019. Shortly after 11am the officer saw the man operating a Saturn product when information was received that the owner of the Saturn had his driving privileges suspended also the licence plates were supposed to be on a different vehicle. As a result he stopped the vehicle to investigate further. The driver of the vehicle was not the owner of the plates but investigation revealed his licences was also suspended on two orders. The man was charged with 2 counts of driving under suspension, using plates not authorized for the vehicle and driving a motor vehicle with no insurance. A summons was issued to appear in Provincial Offences Court in March. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
