UPDATE – (NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – On February 20, 2019 at approximately 6:40 pm an officer from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) measured a black sedan travelling 137 km/h on County Road 28 in the Municipality of Port Hope during inclement weather.
The black sedan continued to drive in an aggressive and dangerous manner passing numerous vehicles as it continued eastbound onto Dale Road. The vehicle was stopped at the intersection of Dale Road and Burnham Street in Hamilton Township.
Bailey Logan, TOLLAND (age 24) of Bewdley, Ontario was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with Dangerous Operations of a Motor Vehicle. He was additionally charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Race a Motor Vehicle – Excessive Speed.
The accused licence was seized and the vehicle he was driving was towed and impounded. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on March 27, 2019.
A 24-year-old Hamilton Township man is facing stunt driving and dangerous driving following an incident on February 20, 2019 at approximately 7 p.m.
Central Region Highway Safety Division OPP officer Constable Chad Laperle said he was travelling northbound on County Road 28, just north of Dale Road in Port Hope at approximately 6:45 p.m. when a southbound vehicle travelling in the opposite direction passed him with no visible taillights.
Laperle clocked the driver at 137 k.p.h. (in a 80 k,p.h, zone) and immediately turned around to catch up with the vehicle.
“I turned around to catch up with him and he was gone,” said Laperle.
With the speed the Honda Civic turbo was travelling and the road conditions it took Laperle over 17 kilometres before he caught up with the vehicle at Burnham Street and Dale Road in Hamilton Township.
The driver was immediately arrested at the scene.
Laperle said the plows were out, there was freezing rain, the roads were wet and there was slush on the road.
“There was all different types of weather.”
The driver was released at the scene and a tow truck impounded the vehicle and the driver had his license suspended for seven days – and faces a court appearance.
