Stubborn Fire At Belden Cobourg Plant

A stubborn fire kept Cobourg firefighters busy at a local factory on Tuesday, February 19, 2019.
Shortly after 3 p.m. Cobourg Fire Department were called to Belden Industries located at 130 Willmott Street to reports of a fire inside the building.
When fire crews arrived the plant was evacuated and firefighters were told there was a fire in the main plant that was burning in the ceiling area.
Captain Chris Brown said the fire started in an extruder and travelled to the ceiling catching the ceiling fan on fire.
Fire crews remained on scene for several hours making sure the fire did not extend into the roof area.
Damage is estimated at $30,000.
