Police Conclude Investigation Into Fire at Jack Burger Sports Complex

In Local

While Port Hope Police has wrapped up their investigation to a fire at the Jack Burger Sports Complex, Port Hope Fire Department worked throughout Wednesday, February 6, 2019 to look for a cause.
The fire damage appears to be contained to a body dryer inside the accessible change room of the facility near the pool area.
At this time, police don’t consider the fire suspicious.
Today’s Northumberland wasn’t allowed access to the area when police concluded their investigation, but fire officials did took several items from the area for analysis including the dryer.
Residents are advised that all pool programs at the Jack Burger Sports Complex (JBSC) are cancelled for the remainder of Wednesday, February 6, as clean up from the change room fire continues throughout the day. The pool accessible change room will be closed for an extended period of time for full remediation.
An additional update will be issued after 4 p.m. today, with details about the status of pool programming for Thursday, February 7.
The arena at JBSC has been re-opened, after required inspections to the fire monitoring system. However, residents are encouraged to check in with their community program provider, to ensure that the programming is on-going, given the current inclement weather conditions.
For further inquiries, please contact Municipal Staff at the JBSC at 905-885-2474.
