Local Band in the Running for National Music Competition

In Local

Northern Hearts, an up and coming folk-rock duo from Cobourg, is in the running for CBC Searchlight. The yearly competition is CBC Music’s long-running hunt for Canada’s undiscovered musical talent.
Shannon Linton and Steve Jones, both born and raised in Cobourg, have known each other since high school but began making music together as Northern Hearts just a few years ago. 2018 was a big year for Northern Hearts, as they played the Cultivate Festival in Port Hope, successfully funded their first album through Kickstarter, and got accepted to showcase at the Folk Alliance International Conference in Montreal.
Their next goal is to get noticed through CBC Searchlight, and they’re asking their community to help make that happen. The contest has three rounds, and audience voting helps bands advance in each round.
Voting for Round 1 begins on Tuesday, Feb. 5 and ends Thursday, Feb. 14. You can visit http://www.cbcmusic.ca/searchlight to cast your vote for Northern Hearts.
