Breaking News – Glare Ice A Factor In Multiple Collisions Shutting Down Highway 401 East of Cobourg

The eastbound lanes of Highway 401, east of Cobourg were shut down following numerous collisions and vehicles in the ditch after the highway turned to glare ice in spots.
Emergency services started getting calls of collisions at approximately 7:45 p.m.
Northumberland OPP said at least 12 vehicles collided, hit the median or were in the ditch at various locations between Cobourg and Grafton.
A Mercedes van/limousine flipped onto it’s side causing heavy damage. A short distance away three other vehicles collided.
There were no reports of collisions in the westbound lanes.
Emergency services including Hamilton Township Fire Department, Cobourg Fire Department, Northumberland OPP and Northumberland Paramedics checked each vehicle for anyone who was injured, but it’s believed no one suffered any injuries.
