The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 128 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:
January 11
Police continue to investigate a theft of gas that was reported from a gas bar located on Telephone Road in the Municipality of Brighton. At approximately 1:30 am a suspect was observed driving away in a black sedan without paying for approximately $ 74.00 in fuel. *
Two bottles of liquor were reported stolen from the liquor store in the town of Campbellford just before 12:30 pm. The suspect is described as being a male in his mid-thirties, approximately five feet tall, wearing grey pants, a black hoodie with a bright orange coat over top of the hoodie and carrying a back pack. Investigation ongoing.*
January 12
A 20-year-old male from Brampton, Ontario had his licence suspended and the vehicle he was driving impounded for seven days after an officer measured him travelling 186 km/h on Highway 401 eastbound in Cramahe Township at approximately 4:15 am. The male was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Stunt driving and is to appear at court in C obourg on February 6, 2019.
Several residents on Jean Davey Road in Hamilton Township reported to police that unlocked vehicles that were parked in their driveways were entered sometime overnight. The suspect(s) stole cash, identification, credit cards, and electronics. Leaving doors unlocked and valuables in plain view is an invitation for thieves to help themselves to personal belongings. The OPP want to remind residents to keep your valuables out of sight, or better yet, remove them entirely from the vehicle. Officers urge you to ensure that your vehicle is locked and the keys are in your possession every time you exit your vehicle. Lock it or Lose it. Investigation is continuing.*
Police were called to the grocery store in Colborne to investigate a theft of fresh produce that occurred just before 9:00 am. The female suspect is described as having reddish-brown hair, wearing black and white leggings, a green coat carrying a large black purse. Investigation in ongoing.*
January 13
Officers investigated three domestic disputes in the County on this day. The first occurred at approximately 2:15 pm in the Municipality of Brighton, the second occurred just after 7:30 pm in Alnwick-Haldimand Township and the third incident occurred at approximately 8:30 pm in the Municipality of Port Hope. No criminal charges were laid as a result of the investigations.
Officers also investigated 10 accidental 911 calls/alarms, 6 motor vehicle collisions; 22 traffic related complaints and conducted 14 RIDE programs over the weekend.
