Northumberland OPP – RIDE Spot Checks Result in Two Arrests

On Thursday December 27, 2018 members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) spot checks that resulted in two men being arrested for alcohol related offences.

Just before 2:30 pm officers were conducting RIDE on Herley Road in Cramahe Township. A silver sedan approached the officers check point. The male driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Jamie MOORE (age 43) of Cramahe Township, Ontario was arrested and charged with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration – 80 plus.

He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on January 30, 2019.

Officers conducting RIDE on Main Street near Ontario Street at approximately 7:00 pm in the Municipality of Brighton arrested and charged 55-year-old Ritchie POUND of Brighton, Ontario with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration – 80 plus after he drove his pick-up truck to the check point and officers found him to be under the influence of alcohol.

He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in
Cobourg on January 23, 2019.

Both of the accused received an immediate 90 day licence suspension, and their vehicles were towed and impounded for seven days.

The OPP remains committed to enforcing impaired driving laws and educating road users about the dangers posed by motorists who drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs. Drivers need to remember that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. Do your part in keeping our roads safe by planning ahead.
