“Pack The Back” Goes A Long Way To Help At Christmas

In Charity

The first annual “Pack The Back” was a tremendous success thanks to the generosity of people in the community on December 1, 2018.
The program was initiated by volunteers with St. John Ambulance along with help from Northumberland County Paramedics packing the back of their vehicles.
An ambulance from St. John Ambulance and one from Northumberland County Paramedics were set up at David’s No Frills on Division Street, while another ambulance from St. John Ambulance was set up at Canadian Tire on County Road 2 in Cobourg.
By the end of the day, all three vehicles were literally filled with toys and food along with donations totalling over $2,000.
The toys went to The Giving Tree at Northumberland Mall, and the food items with taken to the Salvation Army.
“It’s really nice to see this come in,” said Salvation Army Director, Edward Nkyi.
“There are so many needs in the community and seeing this kind of donation is really going to help a lot in efforts to tackle poverty this Christmas.”
Last year the Salvation Army helped out 850 households during Christmas and this year they expect that number to be over 900 households.
