Northumberland OPP – Traffic Stop Results in Weapons Charges

On Wednesday November 14, 2018 at approximately 11:00 pm, officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a RIDE program at Beavermeadow Road and Eagleson Road in Hamilton Township.

An officer observed a vehicle travelling very slowly in the distance on Edgar Benson Road while illuminating a farm field known to have the presence of deer. The officer attended the location and stopped a black Ford pick-up truck. A shot gun and a loaded rifle were located inside the vehicle. As a result of the investigation Jake Samuel FOSTER, age 27 of Port Hope, Ontario was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm ( two counts)
  • Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition (two counts)

The accused was also charged with the following offences under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act:

  •  Unlawfully Hunt at Night
  • Unlawfully Possess Firearm at Night
  • Unlawfully Use Light at Night
  • Use Illegal Firearm During Deer Hunt
  • Resident – Hunt Game Mammal Without Licence

 

Dylan Jethro AINSWORTH, age 28 of Hamilton Township was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order.

Both accused males were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on December 19, 2018.
