Northumberland OPP – OPP Respond to Weapon Related Call

On Wednesday November 14, 2018, shortly after midnight, officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a residence located on Telephone Road in the Municipality of Brighton with regards to a weapons related call for service.
Officers arrived at the scene and secured the location after learning that the female resident was in possession of a firearm. Additional OPP resources were called to the scene which included the Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit, the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), and trained Crisis Negotiators.
Shortly after 4:00 am, a female was taken into custody without incident and two children who were in the home were found unharmed and remained with a family member who was on scene.
As a result of the investigation a 34 year old female, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm/Ammunition
Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or Ammunition
Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
The female whose identity will not be released due to the circumstances surrounding the incident, was held in custody for a bail hearing that took place on Wednesday November 14, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Cobourg.
