Five people escaped a fully engulfed house fire in Alnwick/Haldimand Township on Tuesday, October 23, 2018.
Alnwick/Haldimand Township firefighters were called to the Dunnette Landing Road address after a 9-1-1 call reported a fully involved structure fire at 8:43 p.m.
“First in responding crews reported the house was fully involved on their arrival,” said Alnwick/Haldimand Fire Chief Mark Diminie.
The main portion was a large two storey home.
“Part of the structure had a metal roof which hindered part of the firefighting operations, but at that point the fact the house was fully involved we were more worried about exposures.”
To the south of the home that was engulfed in flames were two other houses and a garage.
“With the wind conditions, embers and sparks were landing on the other three structures. Once we found out there was no occupants in the house, we focused our main firefighting operations by protecting exposures.”
Assisting Alnwick/Haldimand Township Fire Department were Hamilton Township Fire Department.
All five people in the home made it out safely.
The house was a total loss and there is no estimate on damage or cause.
