Release Narrative:
From Monday the 15th day of October, 2018 through Sunday the 21st day of October, 2018 the Cobourg Police Service responded to 170 occurrences including; 1 Fraud call, 5 Suspicious Person calls, 5 Assault calls, 1 Break and Enter Call, 14 Theft calls, 10 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 9 Alarm calls, 1 Harassment call, 2 Disturb the Peace calls, 8 Noise complaints, 7 Domestic Dispute call, 2 Family Dispute calls, 3 Mischief calls, and 1 Drug offence call. Some examples of calls for service this week include;
Monday, October 15, 2018:
Officers attended in the area of Victoria Park, after receiving a report of a possible break and enter at the Band shelter. A search of the interior/exterior of the building was completed, Officers located two insecure doors. The doors appeared to have been left unlocked. No notable signs of forced entry. Nothing appeared to be missing or damaged. Officers secured the building without incident.
Police attended an Albert St. residence upon report of an unwanted male at that residence. Upon arrival police spoke with the complainant .The male had left the residence prior to police arrival but police located a female who had an outstanding warrant for her arrest. The female was arrested and taken into custody. The female was held for a bail hearing at 860 William St.
Tuesday, October 16th, 2018:
A resident in the area of D’Arcy Street contacted police after coming home and finding a motor vehicle parked in her driveway. The complainant observed two females standing outside of the car who smelled heavily of alcohol and begged the complainant not to contact police as they admitted to her they would “blow over” if stopped by police. The two females got back into the vehicle and were last seen driving Westbound on Elgin Street West approx. 7-10 minutes prior to police being called. Police checked the area along Elgin St W from D’Arcy to Burnham Street along with both Highway 401 interchanges with negative results. OPP were also advised. Police were not able to locate the vehicle.
Police were flagged down by a member of the public who had located an intoxicated male in front of Trinity United Church on Division Street. Police located the male and were familiar with him. The male was not intoxicated but was having trouble breathing while out walking. As a precaution EMS was called for him, however, he refused their treatment or to be taken to hospital. The male was transported to his
residence without incident.

On Wednesday October 17, 2018 at approximately 10:23am, a male was observed operating a Chevrolet Silverado travelling north bound on Division Street in the Town of Cobourg. Police stopped the vehicle and determined the driver to be suspended for unpaid fines as well as for family support. The male was arrested and later released from custody charged with Drive while Under Suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act section 53(1)
On Wednesday, October 17th, 2018 at approximately 1624 hours, Police were contacted by a local drug store employee. She indicated that at approximately 1300 hours, three females had entered into the store and immediately began collecting bottles of perfume off the shelf. The three parties then concealed the selected bottles on their persons before eventually leaving the store. The three parties exited through the main doors, passing all points of purchase without making any attempt to pay for the items concealed on their person. Video and still shots of the suspects have been obtained by Police and the photos will be disseminated to Cobourg Police Officers and surrounding agencies in an attempt to identify the suspects.

Police responded to at least five thefts from unlocked motor vehicle that had occurred sometime overnight. These were mostly in the area of Sydenham St., and Bagot St. areas. Police remind motorists to lock their vehicles and don’t leave valuables in plain sight.
Police responded to a local Long Term care facility upon report of one resident running over another resident’s foot with a wheel chair. The resident suffered a minor foot injury as a result. The offending resident was determined to be suffering from dementia. No criminal charges were laid.

A local Shelter contacted police to advise one of their residents always texts the shelter once she arrives at work to let them know she got there safe. On today’s date they did not receive a text and have been unable to contact her. Police located the female at work who stated she had simply forgotten to send the text message. No further police assistance was required.
The manager of a retail store contacted police to report a theft by an employee. The employee admitted to the manager of stealing money from the cash register. Video was provided to police and investigation is ongoing.
Saturday, October 20th, 2018
Police attended a local gas station to assist in resolving a dispute over the cost of a Ride Share Fare .The complainant was told to exit the ride share vehicle due to a Fare dispute about balance owing to get to Ottawa from Toronto . The Ride share driver refunded the complainants fare and she was driven to VIA rail by police and obtained a ticket to return to Toronto on the westbound train.
The Cobourg Marina contacted police to advise they were having boats removed by crane from the harbor to be placed in storage for the winter. Unknown to them a fundraising group had also organized an event which consisted of using canoes in the harbor. The Marina staff felt this was a safety issue and were not going to allow the event to proceed. A minor dispute broke out as the group advised they had received permission from the Town to have the event. Police were able to mediate a resolution in the form of the fundraising event being allowed to continue but without putting canoes in the water. No further issues were reported.
Sunday, October 21st, 2018
A citizen attended the front desk of the police station to report observing 3 suspicious persons in the woods at the South end of Westwood Park on Friday October 19th at approximately 1745 hours. She described the 3 persons as wearing all black and with one wearing a clown mask, the second wearing a white mask and the third wearing a black mask. The complainant stated that when she left the park the 3 walked a distance behind her from Westwood Park along Carlisle to Burnham Street. The 3 did not say anything or make any gestures towards her but she possibly believes one of them was holding a knife in their hand but could not be sure. The complainant further advised that she has observed at least one of the 3 masked individuals in the woods every other day for the last 1-2 months and stated it occurs at approximately 1630 to 1745 hours each time. The 3 individuals have also walked towards the complainant with their arms extended like zombies and she also stated that when she tried to film them on her phone the screen went blurry then died. Due to the unknown identity of the persons, the incident occurring in a public place where children frequent and the possibility of a weapon being present a media release was distributed as a public safety precaution.
A complainant who resides out of town contacted police to conduct a well-being check on her mother who resides in the West end of Cobourg. The complainant had been attempting to contact her mother by phone and was met by voicemail and believed she could hear someone on the other end struggling to breath. Police attended the address and spoke to the female who was perfectly fine. The complainant was advised.
