Special Needs Shinny Catching On In Port Hope

In Editor Choice, Hockey

The first day of ice time for Special Needs Shinny was a success at the Jack Burger Sports Complex on Sunday, October 14, 2018.
“I’m glad it started and it wasn’t that crowded because some of the kids might feel intimidated around crowds so easing them into it was a more comfortable start,” said Sarah Orr whose 13-year-old son Owen took part in.
Orr said she hopes with more people coming out, will mean more volunteers who are needed.
“What I’m hoping for is the parents can sit in the stands and watch the children on the ice having fun.
The next game takes place this coming Sunday, October 21 starting at 4 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. and the cost is $3 per participant. Volunteers helping out are free.
Participants must be wearing a CSA approved helmet and full face mask. For those in wheelchairs, a caregiver must be on the ice wearing skates and a helmet with special maintenance considerations required for wheelchairs.
Volunteers are needed to assist with participants.
For more information on helping out and a complete listing of dates called the Jack Burger Sports Centre at 905-885-2474.
