Cobourg Police – Results Of Survey Will Not Be Made Public

In Editor Choice, Local

It would appear the Cobourg Police Chief has done an about face regarding releasing the results of a internal employee status survey.
Last year, as part of the Cobourg Police Business Plan an internal survey was conducted at the Cobourg Police Service.
No names were attached by people who participated in the survey and officers and staff were free to give their opinions.
On May 28, 2018, Today’s Northumberland sent a request to Cobourg Police asking for a copy of the survey given the results were anonymous.
Chief Kai Liu replied, “regarding your question to the survey conducted for the Police Services Board Business plan, the survey results will be released with the Plan once it is drafted and approved.”
Today’s Northumberland once again e-mailed Chief Liu on Sunday, September 30, “It’s my understanding that the business plan is being presented to Cobourg Council tomorrow night.
As part of that was the internal survey. You stated some months ago that Today’s Northumberland could receive a copy once it is released to council. I was just wondering if we could obtain a copy?”
But Chief Liu replied on Monday, October 1, 2018, “at the commencement of this internal survey a commitment was made to the members that this survey would not be made public so to encourage members to be open and frank with their response. There is no plan to release the internal survey to the public.”
Today’s Northumberland plans on filing a Freedom of Request for the information.
