The Town of Cobourg presented Cobourg’s Great War in Words, Images and Song at Trinity United Church in Cobourg on September 29, 2018 at 8 p.m.
The Elora Singers who are widely acclaimed as one of Canada’s finest choral ensembles performed a number of songs from the World War 1.
They are the resident choir for the annual Elora Festival in July and also tour internationally and have won Grammy and Juno nominations and awards for their recordings. Their accompanist and conductor for the evening was Cobourg native, James Bourne.
Narrators for the evening were Hugh Brewster and Brigitte Robinson.
Brewster is a historian, author and playwright who has collaborated with the Elora Singers on many performances over the last 10 years.
His new play, Last Day, Last Hour; Canada’s Great War on Trial will run from October 18-November 11, 2018 in Cobourg’s Victoria hall Courthouse as part of Armistice18.
Robinson is an accomplished actor who has appeared in theatre, film, radio and television across Canada. She was a member of the Shaw Festival for 13 years and has also worked in most of Canada’s major theatres. Her many film, radio and television credits include the TV series Murdoch Mysteries and the title role in the feature film Punch and Judy.
The evening was part of the Armistice18 events.
