Former Oshawa General Hits Hole-In-One At Newcastle Golf and Country Club

In Local, Sports

The stars were aligned for a former Oshawa General on the golf course recently.
Twenty-one-year-old Hayden McCool has been an avid golfer for approximately five years at the Newcastle Golf and Country Club, but on September 8, 2018 he got a hole-in-one.
McCool said told Today’s Northumberland he started on ninth hole as it was to crowded on the first hole.
“I was just playing average and we got to 17 and I teed off first.”
Using his 60 degree wedge, “I knew it was going to be a nice shot, and maybe a tap in birdie, but the foursome in front of us started going crazy yelling.”
From the tee, McCool could see the flag, he couldn’t see the green, so he wasn’t entirely sure how close it was.
“We went down and they were all going nuts. They pointed at the hole and my ball was pinched in between the flag and the cup.”
“I couldn’t believe it. I never thought I’d get one.”
This is the first hole-in-one for McCool though he’s had a few close calls. On September 16, 2018 he hit the flag stick on the second hole.
“It’s a lot of luck and the stars aligned for me.”
On September 16, 2018 Assistant Manager of the Newcastle Golf and Country Club Mark Froncz (left) and Manager/Director of Golf Dave Armstrong (right) presented McCool with a trophy for the rare shot.
On that day, McCool shot a 81 for the course.
For an average golfer, the chance of getting a hole-in-one is one is 12,500.
McCool played last year for the Oshawa Generals and previously played for Windsor Spitfires for four years and is now attending Ryerson University for business.
