Police Services Act Hearing For Cobourg Constable On Hold Indefinitely

In Local, News
A conference call between all parties involved in a Police Services Act hearing against a 12-year veteran Cobourg Police officer took place on Friday, September 7, 2018.
Constable Amy Mattijjsse  was charged with 19 counts of discreditable conduct on July 20.
Today’s Northumberland learned the 19 discreditable conduct charges against the officer were put on hold pending a review by the Ontario Civilian Police Commission.
The Ontario Civilian Police Commission has made a decision to review the conduct of Chief Kai Liu and whether the charges Constable Mattijjsse face, “are a form of inappropriate reprisal.”
The Ontario Civilian Police Commission is also reviewing “the conduct of the Police Service Board and whether the Board neglected its duties under the Code of Conduct.”
OCPC states it is only reviewing the materials and confirmed, it is not a formal investigation.
While the review is being conducted, “it has directed Chief Liu to suspend the current PSA proceeding.”
On Friday the case against the officer was adjourned sine die.
A definition of sine die is “Without day; without assigning a day for a further meeting or hearing.”
“A legislative body adjourns sine die when it adjourns without appointing a day on which to appear or assemble again.”
Today’s Northumberland sent e-mails to senior officers including Chief Kai Liu and Deputy Chief Paul VandeGraaf and the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Cobourg Police Services Board for comment.
E-mails to the Cobourg Police Service appeared to have been blocked and there has been no reply from the Police Services Board.
