Port Hope Police are warning residents about a man posing as a representative of a driveway paving company.  On the 19th of April a man attended a Walnut Street home and spoke with an elderly female occupant telling her driveway needed to be re-surfaced.  The home owner disagreed but the man was “pushy” and offered to leave his information asking for a pen and paper. When home owner went to get some paper she heard her screen door open. The man wrote his information on the paper and left. Shortly after the homeowner noted her purse was missing.  Later the woman got a phone call saying her cheque book was located in Grafton.

The man is described as male, Caucasian; short slim build, no facial hair, 50-60 years in age wearing a grey toque. He was seen driving a smaller white pick-up truck with no information noted on the vehicle.  The company he purported to be from was “Pete Paving” (sic) the number written was contacted but was out of service and the company name appears to be fictitious.  Police are advising residents to be cautious of such door to door activity and not to let people into their residences.  Anyone with information is asked to call Port Hope Police or Crimestoppers.
