Town of Cobourg Reminds Taxpayers of Deadlines and Payment Options

In City Hall

The Town of Cobourg would like to remind citizens of upcoming property tax billing dates for residential and commercial properties and that alternate payment methods are available as Victoria Hall remains closed to the public.

On Tuesday, March 24, the Town of Cobourg announced certain financial relief initiatives for residents and business owners that included waiving any penalties and interest charges on unpaid property taxes for April 1st and May 1st, and deferring payments for residential, commercial, industrial and multi-residential property taxes. The deferred 2020 Property Tax installment deadlines are as follows:

· Residential Property Taxes — final tax bills were mailed on May 26, 2020:
Payment due dates: June 25, 2020 and October 29, 2020.

Commercial Property Taxes — final tax bills will be mailed out the last week of August:
Payment due dates: September 30, 2020 and November 30, 2020.

The first bill second interim instalment due on May 29th has been extended until June 25, 2020.
Due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Cobourg is unable to confirm when Municipal Buildings will reopen to the public and is asking residents and business owners to please find an alternate option for making payments, such as:

1. Pre-Authorized Payment (PAP) Plan
Property owners can join the PAP Plan by completing the yellow form inside their tax bill. The Town of Cobourg allows taxpayers to pay their taxes on a monthly basis, free of administration fees. The application form can also be found online at cobourg.ca/tax-payments and citizens are reminded to provide a void cheque or bank form with their bank account number.

2. Online Banking/Telephone Banking
Property taxes can be paid directly through citizen’s financial institutions using the payee name “Cobourg Taxes”. Taxpayers will require the 15-digit roll number (starts with 0, and ends with at least four zeros).

3. Victoria Hall Drop Box
Taxpayers can use the 24-hour drop box located on the west side of Victoria Hall, 55 King Street West.

4. Mail
The Town of Cobourg accepts postdated cheques. Please ensure the date listed is the due date to avoid a penalty. Payments can be forwarded to the following address:

The Town of Cobourg
55 King Street WestCobourg, Ontario
K9A 2M2

5. Credit Card
The Town offers a credit card payment option provided through Paymentus Corporation, an independent third-party who provides an automated payment service accepting Visa or Mastercard. There is a fee charged by Paymentus for this service. The link to this can be found on our website at cobourg.ca/tax-payments.

Please note that failure to receive a tax bill does not eliminate the responsibility for the payment of the taxes and penalties, if applied. If you do not receive your tax bill, please contact the Town of Cobourg’s Finance Department at 905-372-8944.
