Northumberland OPP Remind Boaters To Always Check Emergency Equipment

Northumberland OPP were on the waters of Rice Lake over the long weekend making sure boaters were in compliance with boating regulations.

Today’s Northumberland spoke with Northumberland OPP Jeff Laporte said there were mainly anglers on the lake, but also a few pleasure craft.

It’s the first time this season the OPP boat was in the water along with other boaters so it wasn’t as busy as your typical Victoria Day Long Weekend.

“Everybody has been really good,” said Laporte.

“After a long, cold winter, sometimes stuff goes missing or gets damaged and you don’t always check, but so far everybody has been pretty good.”

Laporte said people should always wear their life jacket and always be prepared for an emergency by having all the emergency equipment up to date.
