Lt (NL) Michael Pigeon Recognized by Navy League of Canada

The Navy League of Canada Northumberland Branch congratulates LT (NL) Michael Pigeon Commanding Officer of NLCC Northumberland on his most recent award.

Lt (NL) Pigeon who was honoured at a recent presentation held during the National Annual General Meeting of the Navy League of Canada. Lt (NL) Pigeon was recognized by the National Awards Committee and named the “National President Award” Winner for a Navy League Cadet Officer.

The presentation was made by the National Awards Chair, Mrs. Pat Randall.

LT (NL) M. Pigeon was recognized for his efforts in bringing and providing many opportunities for our youth ages 9 to 12 in Port Hope and Cobourg communities in our Navy League Cadet Program.

As a former Navy League Cadet and Sea Cadet in Barrie – In 2003 Michael started the Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC) Northumberland as well as being the Commanding Officer he has also held the position of Division Squadron Officer for Jefferies Squadron.

Some of Lt (NL) Pigeon’s accomplishments in his 18-year career with the Northumberland Branch of the Navy League of Canada include: earning the “Navy League of Canada Meritorious Service Award” The Magnificent and Jefferies Squadrons, “Officer of the Year Award”, establishing and founding NLCC Northumberland #194, acting as Commanding Officer of a Cadet Camp in Cornwall; Squadron and Provincial competitions, arranged trips for cadets; mentored cadets in the Duke of Edinburg Award; developed key partnerships in the community; and most recently set up the Joint Cadet Exercise with the USNSCC/NLCC of the USS Little Rock Training Ship in Buffalo, NY.

The Joint Training weekend visit of NLCC Northumberland Corps to the USS Little Rock in July 2019 was so successful, the Sullivan’s Division of the USNSCC/NLCC Corps from Buffalo hopes to come to Ontario in the near future.
