Peterborough County OPP – Fatal Collision Closes Highway 7

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews responded to the scene of a three-vehicle motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 7 near Jermyn Line in Otonabee- South Monaghan Township, resulting in one fatality.

At approximately 6:06pm on November 14, 2023, Peterborough County OPP received a call reporting a serious three-vehicle collision on Highway 7. Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle in the middle of the roadway with the driver still within it. Fire and EMS were required to extricate the driver who was then transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later air lifted to a trauma centre.

The second vehicle was found in the eastbound lane with the driver being uninjured.

The third vehicle was found in the eastbound ditch. The driver, a 70-year-old male from Selwyn Township, was pronounced as deceased at the scene of the collision. A passenger in that vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Witnesses reported observing the first vehicle cross over the centre line coming into contact with the second vehicle before colliding head-on with the third vehicle.

Highway 7 remained closed for several hours while police investigated, and members trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene.
