A local youth who was part of Team Ontario won the National Box Lacrosse Championships in Saskatchewan.

It’s the second year in a row for 12-year-old Tucker Williams to be part of the Gold medal team.

The National Box Lacrosse Championships were held from Aug 14-19 and Williams selected as goalie for U13 Team Ontario Men’s Team for 2nd year in a row.

Last year Team Ontario won the gold medal over British Columbia, and repeated the victory in 2023 with a 8-3 win over BC in the Championship Gold Medal game and won the E.G Dopp National Championship Trophy.

Tucker was selected as the U13 All Star Team Goalie and one of the Captains of the Team Ontario squad.

Tucker also represents Ontario as the U13 Team Ontario Field Lacrosse goalie and will be participating in several national events over the next year.

Tucker is also the goalie for the Northumberland Nemesis U13 Box Lacrosse Team who won silver in the A Division U13 Provincial Championships earlier this month. Tucker was selected as the U13 All Star Team Goalie for the Ontario Lacrosse Association A Division qualifying teams.

Tucker will continue to train throughout the year and looks forward to the opportunities and challenges ahead in the game he loves to play. Tucker says he would like to thank his parents, team mates and coaches for making this all possible and states ” Winning a 2nd National Championship is amazing, and we had a great team and coaches. We played as a team, and knew that we could bring the gold back to Ontario.”

Tucker received the 2023 Athletic Award from the Municipality of Port Hope, as well as the Athlete of the year award from his local public school. Tucker will be attending Grade 7 at Dale Road School in September.
