St. Mary Thunder Earns a Silver at COSSA High School Baseball Championships in Cobourg

In Baseball

The St Mary Thunder hosted the COSSA high school baseball championship on May 29, 2023 in Cobourg and Port Hope.

In semi- final action Monday morning, the Thunder rolled to a 12-2 win over Prince Edward Collegiate. Carter Schoep pitched a complete game gem on the mound. Ben Lynch, Brody Swayne and Nick MacIsaac led the offensive attack with multiple hits and RBI’s.

The other semi final game featured the Crestwood Mustangs from Peterborough taking on St Theresa’s from Belleville. It took extra innings for St Theresa to prevail in a very close game.

In the afternoon Championship game, the Thunder came up a run short, losing 12-11 to St Theresa. The boys fell behind early, but as they have all season rallied with amazing grit and determination until the final out.

St Mary’s coaches and players should feel proud of another very impressive season.

For the second consecutive year, they were very worthy representatives of the eight-team Kawartha High School League at the COSSA Championships. High school baseball is thriving in Cobourg!
