Quinte West OPP – Motorist Charged with Impaired Driving

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in an impaired driving investigation.

On April 15, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m., erratic driving behaviour led Quinte West OPP to suspect a motorist may have been under the influence of alcohol.

During the investigation, the officer utilized an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver was arrested and transported to deta chment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, charges were laid under the Criminal Code (CC), Liquor Licence and Control Act (LLCA) and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

John MACDONALD, age 20, from Quinte West, was charged with the following offences:

Operation while impaired – alcohol CC

Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC

Young driver – B.A.C. above zero HTA

Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available LLCA

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on May 4, 2023. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for seven days, and their licence suspended for 90 days.
