Cobourg Police – $25,000 Worth of Drugs Seized During Traffic Stop (Name Released)

An Ennismore man has been arrested and charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act after failing to stop for police.

On Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 3:50 p.m., police on general patrol observed an individual operating a motor vehicle while under suspension. Police initiated a traffic stop, and the motor vehicle failed to stop.

A short time later, police observed the individual walking southbound on D’Arcy Street. After seeing the police, the individual fled on foot.

After a brief foot pursuit, officers safely made an arrest and located a scale, cash, approximately 75 grams of suspected crack cocaine, approximately 98 grams of suspected cocaine, approximately 30 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, and approximately 10 grams of suspected fentanyl. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $25,000.

As a result of the police investigation, 41-year-old Michael RUTLEDGE of Ennismore was arrested and charged with the following offences:

1) Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

2) Flight from police, contrary to section 320.17 of the Criminal Code

3) Dangerous Operation, contrary to section 320.12(1) of the Criminal Code

4) Obstruct Police, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code

5) Possession of substance in schedule I for the purpose of trafficking-Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act

6) Possession of substance in schedule I for the purpose of trafficking- Crack Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act

7) Possession of substance in schedule I for the purpose of trafficking-Crystal Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act

8) Possession of substance in schedule I for the purpose of trafficking-Fentanyl, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act

9) Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

Rutledge was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.
