On Wednesday August 3rd, 2022 at approximately 7:52am a uniform member of the Cobourg Police was conducting speed enforcement in the area of Elgin Street West and Wilkins Gate.
The officer observed a Westbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and a traffic stop was initiated. The man driving the vehicle provided a false identity to the officer and the woman passenger fled the scene. After further investigation the true identity of the driver was discovered and it was also learned the vehicle had been stolen from a business in Quinte West but had not yet been reported. The woman was later located a short distance away.
As a result a 41-year-old man from Consecon and 45-year-old woman from Trenton were arrested and jointly charged with the following offence:
1) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 contrary to section 355(a) of the Criminal Code
The man was further charged with the following offences:
1) Theft of Motor Vehicle contrary to section 333.1 of the Criminal Code
2) Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code
Both individuals were released on Undertakings with a court date of Wednesday September 14th, 2022 at 9:00am.
