Award-Winning Investigative Reporter Guest Speaker at CFUW-Northumberland’s 31st Annual Scholarship Fundraiser

Moira Welsh, award-winning Toronto Star investigative reporter and author, will be guest speaker at CFUW-Northumberland’s 31st annual scholarship fundraiser on Monday, October 3.

In her talk, entitled: Happily Ever Older: Living Well in our Later Years, Welsh will be sharing her insights into how the right living arrangements can increase vibrancy that defies age or ability,
and can create a future with strong social connections and a reason to go on living.

The in-person event will be held at Dalewood Golf Club, 7465 Dale Road, Cobourg at 2:30 p.m.

Doors open at 2 p.m. and light refreshments follow.

Tickets are $65 and on sale now through our website at cfuw-northumberland.org A partial receipt for income tax purposes will be issued. All are welcome to attend.

Welsh has written extensively on seniors’ issues, with a focus on long-term care, along with issues related to social justice, health and the environment. She has co-authored investigations
that have won three National Newspaper Awards and a Michener Award for Meritorious Public Service Journalism. She was a finalist for the Justicia Award for Legal Reporting and the
Canadian Hillman Prize for investigative journalism in “service of the common good.”

Autographed copies of Moira Welsh’s book, Happily Ever Older: Revolutionary Approaches to Long-Term Care, will be available for purchase.

CFUW-N, founded in 1991, is part of a provincial, national and international organization that promotes education and advocacy for women and girls.

Annually, CFUW-N awards six $1,000 scholarships to students attending the six Northumberland County high schools and two $1,000 bursaries to students continuing their studies at Fleming College and Trent University.

In 2022, CFUW-N also awarded six STEM scholarships of $1,500 each to celebrate the 30th anniversaries of CFUW-Northumberland and of Dr. Roberta Bondar’s space flight; and three
bursaries of $500 each to students entering apprenticeship programs.
