Durham Regional Police – Assault at Hockey Game in Whitby

A 43-year-old male has been charged following an altercation at an Under 16 hockey game in Whitby earlier this week.

 

On Monday, March 28, 2022, at approximately 10:30 p.m., members from Central West Division received a call for a disturbance at the Iroquois Park Sports Complex. Reports indicate that following a fight between two players, one of the players was grabbed and shoved by an adult male while the player was exiting the ice surface. Others in attendance intervened and the altercation spilled out into the parking lot.

 

Shawn Melo, age 43, of Kingston has been charged with: Assault and Causing a Disturbance by Fighting. He was released on an undertaking.

 

Police continue to investigate this incident. Anyone with any information including video taken at the time is asked to contact D/Cst. Adepegba of the Central West Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1832.
