City of Kawartha Lakes OPP – Weekend Snowmobile Patrol

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) S.A.V.E. (Snowmobile, All Terrain Vehicle and Vessel Enforcement) Team were busy this past weekend with patrolling the snowmobile trails in the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Over the weekend from February 11-13, 2022, officers issued a total of 50 charges and 30 warnings. Including a speeder who was stopped for traveling 145 km/h in a posted 50 km/h on an OFSC (Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club) Trail.

Common infractions for which officers issued Provincial Offence Notices included:

  • 26 improper muffler
  •  11 speeding
  •  3 fail to properly secure helmet chin strap
  •  3 no trail pass

Snowmobilers who are using the OFSC trails should also remember that they are required to carry all proper documentation including; proof of insurance, registration, and have their trail permits displayed along with their registration numbers. Drivers are also required to carry their driver’s licence or motorized snow vehicle operator’s licence.

Officers would especially like to thank all those on the trails they encountered that were abiding by the laws and riding respectfully.
