Cobourg Mayor John Henderson took a moment at this week’s Cobourg council meeting to pay tribute to two Cobourg Rotarians who had recently passed on – Hal Jacobsen on June 24 and Ed Lorenz on July 5.

“Hal Jacobsen was a very dedicated Rotarian who offered a great deal of expertise in the banking world but was very instrumental with all his help for the past 20 years at Ribfest and the Waterfront Festival,” Henderson said.

“He was one of the key organizers who kept the rest of us organized, and I know he will certainly be dearly missed by Thelma and family.

“Ed Lorenz served with greatness and created his own conveying-packaging product company.”

Lorenz & Son Mfg. is one of North America’s top 500, Henderson said, and one of Canada’s top 100. And that’s not the only place his name lives on – his extraordinary generosity in donating to the new Northumberland Hospice Care Centre earned him and his wife the right to name it. It is known today as Ed’s House.

He set a record few can equal, the mayor added – 30 years of perfect Rotary attendance, both at the Cobourg club and the one in Hawaii which was sort of his second home.

“Our hearts go out to Diane, Peter and family,” Henderson said.
