Northumberland OPP – Traffic Enforcement Leads to Impaired Charge

Traffic enforcement by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) led to the arrest of an impaired driver.


On April 11, 2021 at approximately 8:49pm a member of the Northumberland OPP made observations of a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Elizabeth St in the town of Brighton. The officer initiated a traffic stop and after conducting a brief investigation, arrested the driver.


As a result of the investigation Tommy Church (age 48) of Frankford Ontario, was arrested and charged with:


Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80plus)


Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code


The accused was further charged with two offences under the Highway Traffic Act, one offence under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, one offence under the Liquor Licence Act, and one offence under the Tabaco Tax Act.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on June 9, 2021.
