Quinte West OPP – Three Charged Following Traffic Stop

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged three people following a traffic stop in Trenton.


On April 1, 2021, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Quinte West OPP conducted a traffic stop of a taxi on Water Street as part of an investigation into a person violating court ordered conditions. One person was arre sted after confirming they were violating a release order, and two other passengers were arrested after officers observed suspected hydromorphone pills inside the vehicle. A subsequent search of the taxi resulted in a quantity of suspected methamphetamine being seized.


Kyle LAIRD, 31 years old, Shayne DESORMO, 33 years old, and Rhonda GIORDANO, 29 years old, all from Quinte West have been charged with possession of a schedule I substance – Hydromorphone and possession of a schedule I substance – Methamphetamine.


Additionally, LAIRD was charged with two counts of failure to comply with a release order – other than to attend court. DESORMO was charged with one count of fail to comply with probation order, and GIORDANO was charged with two counts of fail to comply with probation order.


LAIRD was held in custody and is scheduled to appear for bail at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on April 1, 2021. DESORMO and GIORDANO were released f rom custody on Undertakings and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario court of Justice in Belleville on May 3, 2021.
