Quinte West OPP – Brighton Man Charged With Attempt Murder of a Police Officer

Accused charged, held for bail
(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) has laid charges against a Northumberland County resident following an assault on an officer.

On March 21, 2021, shortly before 1:00 a.m., an officer from the Quinte West Detachment had conducted a traffic stop of a pick-up truck on Highway 14, just wes t of Highway 62 in Quinte West. The officer’s cruiser was struck by the other vehicle and the officer suffered stab wounds in an assault. The officer is recovering in hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 9:00 a.m. that morning, following an extensive search with the assistance of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine Unit, OPP Aviation Services, Durham Regional Police Air Support Unit (ASU) and the Belleville Police Service, the accused was arrested without incident.
Charles PARKINSON, 26 years old of Northumberland County has been charged with Attempt to commit murder contrary to section 239(1)(b) of the Criminal Code and Disarming a peace officer contrary to section 270.1(1) of the Criminal Code.

The accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court by video on March 25, 2021.

In a chilling video posted to social media with t he name “Charlie Parkinson” stating, “yes, this is that post.”

“That post that everybody feared, but for me. I see really clear.”

The person in the video talks about when he was nine-years-old his father died and took away his pain and suffering.

“I only ask that they do the same for me.”

“Maybe what I’m about to do is the answer.,” and the brief video ends.

OPP Spokesperson Bill Dickson stated police are aware of the video.

“As you will understand, I can’t speculate on the meaning of the  video, as the matter is now before the courts.”
