Northumberland OPP – Investigating Serious Assault

On Friday September 25, 2020, the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of serious assault in the village of Hastings.

At approximately 10:30 pm, the Northumberland OPP, and Emergency Services (EMS) received information of an alleged stabbing outside a residence on Front Street East. When police arrived at scene they observed a individual on the ground with obvious signs of trauma. The victim was transported by EMS to a nearby hospital but was later transported to a hospital in Kingston to be treated for what are described as non-life threatening injuries.

A 33 year-old resident of Trent Hills, Ontario has been arrested and charged with:

· Aggravated assault
· Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
· Assault with a weapon

The accused was held for a show cause hearing on Saturday September 26, 2020, and is now scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date in October 2020.

The Northumberland OPP continue to investigate with assistance from the Central Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS).

The name of the accused is being with-held to protect the identity of the victim.
