Quinte West OPP – Multiple Charges and Two Loaded Firearms Seized in Trenton

(QUINTE WEST, ON) -On Sunday August 16, 2020, at approximately 2:15 a.m. officers from the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) initiated a traffic stop on Highway 401 westbound in the City of Quinte West. The vehicle driver fled from police. The suspect vehicle was located a short time later in a parking lot on Sidney Street in Trenton. Several parked vehicles, including a n OPP cruiser were struck before the vehicle collided with the apartment building at the location. Two occupants of the car fled the area on foot.

The OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and OPP Canine Unit conducted a search, during which two loaded handguns, a large quantity of cash, a cell phone and ammunition were located and seized. The two accused persons were located in a nearby wooded area and arrested without incident around 7:00 a.m. There were no injuries reported.

The investigation is continuing and is being assisted by the Quinte West OPP Crime Unit and Technical Collision Investigators (TCI).

Abdullahi SABRIOIE, 19 years old, of Kitchener and Hamza ALI, 18 years old, of Etobicoke have each been charged with the following:
Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm – two counts
Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm – two counts
Transport Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device in a Careless Manner – two counts
Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition for a Dangerous Purpose

SABRIOIE has additionally been charged with Resist Peace Officer.
ALI has additionally been charged with:
Flight from Peace Officer
Dangerous Operation

The two accused persons have been held in custody and are scheduled to appear by video August 17, 2020 before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
