Traffic Stop in Whitby Leads to Drug Charges

A Whitby male is facing drug charges after a routine traffic stop early this morning led to the seizure of over $30,000 in cash and drugs.

 

On Wednesday May 9, 2018, just after 2:00 a.m., officers from Central West Division stopped a vehicle travelling westbound on Taunton Road near Garrard Road for a headlight infraction.

 

Officers detected a strong odour of marihuana and the vehicle was searched. A quantity of marihuana and cocaine were located along with cash and drug paraphernalia. The male was arrested and charged. The street value of the drugs and cash seized is over $30,000.

 

Mehmet ASKAR, age 22, of  Rolling Acres Drive in Whitby, is charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (cannabis); Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (cocaine); Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (resin) and Proceeds of Crime over $5,000. He was held for a bail hearing.

 

Anyone that has any new information about this incident is asked to call A/Sgt. Sigmann of Central West Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2334. Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 and tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward.
