Cobourg Police – Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest and Charges

On Monday May 4th, 2020 at 1:00 am, Police were on general patrol and located a motor vehicle in a parking lot on Division Street with license plates that were not registered for the motor vehicle.

The vehicle exited the lot and Police initiated a traffic stop, however the driver failed to pull over.

A short distance later, Police were able to stop the motor vehicle at the intersection of Division Street and Veronica Street.

The driver was arrested for fail to stop for Police. During a search of his person, Police located a small quantity of fentanyl.

40-year-old, Peterborough Resident, Adam FURFARO was charged with the following offences:

1. Use Plate not Authorized for Motor Vehicle – Contrary to Section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act

2. Fail to Stop for Police – Contrary to Section 216(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

3. Drive Motor Vehicle – No License – Contrary to Section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

4. Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle – Contrary to Section 7(5)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act

5. Owner Operate Motor Vehicle – No Insurance – Contrary to Section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

6. Possession of a Controlled Substance – Fentanyl – Contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

7. Fail to Comply with Probation – Contrary to Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

8. Fail to Comply with Probation – Contrary to Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was released from custody on an Undertaking with conditions and a future court date.
